Partner | Interactive Director

Daniel is an award-winning biomedical illustrator and interactive media designer, and Founding Partner and Interactive Director of Haderer & Müller. In addition to general biomedical illustration, his responsibilities include the development, coding, and technical aspects of Haderer & Müller’s animation, data visualization, and multimedia work. Daniel’s interest in user experience design, adult education, and interactive learning coupled with his advanced training in usability and programming keep him up to date on the latest in the field.

In addition to his responsibilities at Haderer & Müller, Daniel is on staff at the New England Journal of Medicine as their Interactive Medical Media Designer and medical illustrator. In his work there, he interfaces with international authors and in-house medical thought-leaders to create interactive data visualization modules, interactive case studies, and illustrations for the print and online versions of the Journal.

Daniel holds a master’s degree in Medical and Biological Illustration from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar and a 5-year licenciatura in Biology/Zoology from the University of Lisbon.

Daniel began his career with the co-founding of the first bio­med­ical illus­tra­tion and anaplas­tol­ogy stu­dio in his native Lisbon, Por­tu­gal, and continues to create illustrations for the Oceanário de Lisboa and other Portuguese and international clients.

He is an active professional member of the Association of Medical Illustrators. He is also a member of the Boston Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, Computer Human Interaction Group, the Health and Science Communications Association, and the User Experience Professionals’ Association.

Daniel is fluent in Portuguese and French.
