Published with the article “Ruptured Cerebral Aneurysms” in The New England Journal of Medicine, this illustration shows the anatomy of the subarachnoid space and the circle of Willis. An aneurysm has formed at the branching point of the internal carotid artery. To repair the aneurysm, temporary clips are placed, a portion of the skull base is removed, and then permanent clips are placed to cure the lesion.
