Enzyme Acyl–Coenzyme A

The location and function of the enzyme Acyl–Coenzyme A:Cholesterol Acyltransferase (ACAT) are demonstrated here.

Two forms of ACAT have been identified: ACAT1 is present in many tissues, including macrophages, and ACAT2 is present in the intestinal mucosa and hepatocytes. ApoB denotes apolipoprotein B, VLDL very-low-density lipoprotein, LDL low-density lipoprotein, and HDL high-density lipoprotein.
